It's a know fact that when you compress air, the temperature rises.  The heat variation may produce excess moisture  in the storage tank.  The compressor oil lubricates while cooling the air as it is pushed into the tank.  Thus, less moisture and less chance of corrosion forming on the metal parts inside the pump.

Air-compressor oil is usually a synthetic oil that does not contain detergents commonly found in motor oil. Air-compressor oil is manufactured specifically for use in lubricating the ball bearings inside a compressor and is generally the recommended choice by manufacturers of air compressors. A synthetic oil also helps reduce carbon deposits within the compressor.

A good synthetic compressor oil will typically have no additives or Sulphur that could produce a build up on the valve plates.  Air compressor oil is formulated to work with air compressors!! Motor oil is formulated to work with combustion engines!!!

What is the difference between automotive oil and compressor oil?

Automotive oils contain detergents and dispersants to deal with blow-by, as well as EP additives. These are ash containing and contribute to valve deposits in reciprocating  air compressors. In screw compressors these additive cause emulsification with water.

Reciprocating  compressors really benefit from the clean operation of Teresstic ISO compressor oils.

Using the right air compressor oil for your compressor is very important. This is true for both rotary screw compressors and reciprocating piston compressors.You can’t just use engine oil or hydraulic oil!

HERE ARE THE FUNCTIONS OF COMPRESSOR OIL.

· It works as a sealing to prevent air leakage

· It lubricates all moving parts

· It cools important parts of the compressor element.

Air compressor oil is specifically designed to do the above jobs! well. If you choose to use oil from your car or hydraulic oil, the compressor will definitely die!!!!

Compressors can get very hot.. normal maximum outlet temperature of a rotary screw compressor element is set at 120 degrees Celsius. The oil should be able to survive these kinds of temperatures.

Oil failure

If you operate your compressor on a too high temperature for a long time, the oil will form a thin layer on the entire inside of your compressor. When this happens to your oil-cooler, it won’t be able to cool the oil as effectively as it used to.  Consequently, it will eventually SHUT DOWN.

When this happens to your compressor, the ‘contaminated’ parts and especially the poor oil-cooler need to be chemically cleaned or replaced by new ones.
